Category: Let's talk
This might or will piss alot of the guide dog users here on the community. While waiting for a price check at this kitchen store, this Long Island women came to the check out counter with her pet dog. (can't say the breed) No folks, this dog wasn't a certified service dog because A. no ids and B. no harness or uniform. So I said "Hey is that a real dog?" And the lady snapped "No, it's a real person, a human being. Of course (rolling eyes with rude tone) it's a real dog." The dog wasn't suppose to be in the store! And too tiny to be a service dog. I can't believe it and no muzzle either! Yeah and when I took my pet dog to the mall with sis to get her picture taken, we had to put a muzzle on her as she wasn't a seeing eye dog. And that if we came in the store again with her with no muzzle we'd be turned away and thrown out as it's insurance shit. I mean geez now if I brought in a certified dog, people will turn me away and thats how I feel right now and now that turned me off on wanting my first guide dog. Pissed me off a bit but oh well, if one person ruins it because of that reason then she may as well ruin it for us all who depend on it. By the way when I asked that question, the clerks both bent down, saw the dog and looked horrified to see it standing there. I mean it was harmless yes, but it could've been one of those attack dogs or something. And yes there was a no pets sticker on the doors to the store. Anyone wanna throw their thoughts on the subject? I mean it's no big deal to me, as I'm a cane user but it might be for someone who has a certified dog and a need for that dog to be in that public building. I wouldn't know however if the lady got the lecture of bringing her dog in the store or not as mom and I left when the ladies were talking to her so I'm sure it must've got brought up.
Was the woman holding the dog in her arms or was it walking next to her on a leash? If she was holding it and it was not walking, then it is not the same as a dog walkig on a leash! If a person has a dog and they carry it or have it in a special bag for dogs or in their coat with the dog's head sticking out, then it is not considered to be a "dog" it is part of the person carrying/holding it. For dogs on a leash the rules are more strict. But this again is America, as people with dogs in Europe and particularly in the Netherlands can take their pets into stores unless there is a sticker outside the store saying "no dogs allowed." Dogs are also allowed into buses, trains, trams, taxis etc. even if they are not service dogs. Star
Blind/vi I agree it just takes 1 numpty to flout the rules, and we all suffer, here there are signs on the doors NO DOGS ONLY GUIDE DOGS and it is illegal in britain, to prevent a guide dog from entering a store, or anywhere for that matter...
I don't understand how people are so obsessedwith dogs. All these shows about women with dogs in their purses, it's treated like a fashion accessory, like gloves or a nice scarf. I thnk it borders on animal cruelty really to confine these specially bread tiny dogs in bags and have them carried around all day. I guess lots of it is companionship because lots of those women just don't have time for famlies or husbands etc, but I don't see guys do the same. Perhaps they turn to cool cars, nice stereos and sports on tv instead. But, to me a dog is a dog, not a person, very lovely and in case of specially trained dogs really a huge helper, useful and can be a great loving companion but it's not a person and if stores ban people to come in with dogs they should respect that.
The dog was on a lead or in other words leash. Wildbrw I have seen women use dogs as accessories though and I kinda find it cruel that they gotta do that. Who'd want a animal in your purse? And she's one of these people who considers the dog her child. Almost all stores and resturants in the states here have a no dogs allowed policy. Unless your dog is a service dog i.e. for the blind or wheelchair bound then really you can't have the dog in the store. There are indded dogs that small for therapy or seizure dogs but aren't those conducted at family or nursing homes?
I think there's too much of a growing trend to humanize our animals. And someone is making a fortune out of it! my neighbours opposite have a maltese, she's tiny, and they dress her up in little doggy coats etc - it's really really sad. I think that you're right b in that it borders on animal cruelty, apart from being walked of course, most dogs are happy to stay at home and wait for their owners to come home rather than be carried around in handbags or even just left in cars or tied up outside of shops.
Let's face it a dog is better than a child! It will not resent you when it grows up, it will always love you unconditionaly, it will be loyal and faithful to you for ever, obedient, will not object with whatever you feed it or dress it. Best of all: it doesn't talk back, doesn't do drugs, doesn't have bad friends. Who wouldn't want a child with such qualities!!! LOL Star
yeh and if it acts up you can always have it put to sleep, <grin> only joking just in case anyone thought I was serious.
